Have you been rescued? Well, have you?

July 1, 2011

Someone sent me a poem today: “I Rescued a Human” about a dog who enticed a woman to adopt her by promising to love her unconditionally. I was rescued by Mokie, who has made good on her promise to me. Thousands of us humans need rescuing. Have you been rescued? Probably not, if you haven’t been to your local animal shelter and met your lifetime best friend in the whole, wide world! Take it from me, one who knows, you need rescuing! Get in there and surrender to the loving sniffs and licks and purrs of the residents who would so much like to rescue you.

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels.
I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage.
I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today.
Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past.  I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me.  I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.
A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.
I would promise to keep her safe.  I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.
So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors.
So many more to be saved.  At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

Are you part of the illusion?

March 1, 2011
The Weekly Reflection February 28, 2011
If we take our vulnerable shell to be our true identity, if we think our mask is our true face, we will protect it with fabrications even at the cost of violating our own truth. This seems to be the collective endeavor of society: the more busily men dedicate themselves to it, the more certainly it becomes a collective illusion, until in the end we have the enormous, obsessive, uncontrollable dynamic of fabrications designed to protect mere fictitious identities – “selves,” that is to say, regarded as objects.Thomas Merton, Raids on the Unspeakable (New York: New Directions) 15 Thought for the DayTo have an identity, we have to be awake, and aware.Thomas Merton, Raids on the Unspeakable (New York: New Directions) 15

Contemplative Pause

Throughout this week, pause, take a breath, and listen with your heart. Become aware in that moment to how you are a part of the illusion or sharing your true identity.

This is taken from an email I get weekly.  I LOVE Thomas Merton.  If you like it, you can subscribe by sending an email to  Also, the Merton Institute offers an exquisite study series called Bridges.  I recommend it for anyone who delves deeply into self and spirit.  You won’t regret it. It’s the BEST!

Eye Candy from Vancouver

February 17, 2011

Here are visual treats for you from Vancouver, B.C.  I have more to come, but these are your starter.  Am not able to edit or crop photos. Didn’t download software before I left. You’ll just have to use your imagination.  Thanks for that.

I'll let you guess

Just following the rules — in style

February 17, 2011

Here I sit in a lovely lounge in Vancouver, B.C.  sipping English Breakfast tea.  Lots of noise around me — conversations and a little bass from the  background music.  All unobtrusive.  I’m soooo happy.  Happy to be here; happy to be writing; just plain happy.

Yesterday, I got snagged by Barbara as a Stylish Blogger.  Thank you, ma’am!  I’ve been snagged before, back when I was a newbie blogger.  Didn’t know what to do; didn’t want to do it when I found out; so I didn’t.  But thank you anyway, Jane and Wendy.  It’s the thought that counts.  At least your thought. Mine was pretty lame.  I also realize that one must come up with 6 poor souls who must then find 6 poor souls, who must then . . . like a pyramid scheme, isn’t it?

Well, I’m on vacation, so can indulge myself and ask my loving friends to indulge me.  You see, I’m able to get back at Jane and Wendy, drag out JaimeLynn, who may wish to remain anonymous and nudge spirit2go and jevcat. These five women have very dear places in my heart.  If you haven’t visited with them, time’s a wastin’!  You’ll be glad you did — and for very different reasons.

I’d like to bring Evangeline to the fore — afterall, she’s the reason I blog.  Met her and her lovely man on the streets of Santa Fe, NM, was it two years ago or just last year?  We were photographing the same ancient doors.  She’s a marvelous photographer.  She really captures the heart and soul of New Mexico in her photos.

And Charles — a poet who continually touches the raw places in my soul.  My dream is that he awaken us all to the things we habitually deny, avoid or run away from.

The winners of the Stylish blogger are:

PlaneJaner’s Journey at her brand new location

Herding Cats in Hammond

CrazyintheMaking still hidden from stalkers

Evangeline’s Art Photography

Read Between the Mind

This Woman’s Spirit

Jevcat’s Blog

SO HERE ARE THE RULES:    I must list 7 things no one knows about me.  Then choose 6 nominees to pass on the Stylish Blogger Award.  Leave a message for each of the six letting them know I have something for them on my blog.

  1. I just got my 2nd speeding ticket in my life – 54 in a 35 zone in tiny Rupert, Idaho. Cost me $150. Blech! And to think that will support the small-minded, narrow-visioned, uneducated nincompoops that make up part of our state senate. Glralsch!
  2. I lived in Germany for 6 years as a teen.  Wiesbaden.
  3. My grandmother’s name was Drusilla Victoria.  My grandfather’s name was Cephas Lee.  Both very biblical.
  4. My middle name is Victoria.  My daughter’s middle name is Victoria. My first cousin’s middle name is Victoria and her daughter’s first name is Victoria.  And I have four grandsons.  What happened to the Victoria line?  Must be a secret.  Awwww! And, yes, I have been to Victoria, BC.
  5. I make a delicious Tomato Chutney. Want the recipe?
  6. I flunked my first test ever in Organic Chemistry. A fellow graduate student said I should skip inorganic and go straight into organic.  I listened.  Such hubris!  I marched straight from the test to drop the class.  Yowsa!
  7. I had my first 12-year-old Scotch night before last!  It was yum and petey.

God, I hope that’s all I have to think up.  I’ve taken all these wonderful pictures I wanted to post, and it’s taken me almost 2 hours to do this.  Thanks, Barbara!  Did you hear sarcasm in that? Naw!  I love your ing I’m stylish!

Off to the potty and photos.  See you soon!

Greetings from Canada!
